Organizations continue collaboration in revitalizing Charlotte’s inner-city neighborhoods

CHARLOTTE, N.C., September 15, 2015 – DreamKey Partners, a nonprofit housing development corporation, has received a grant from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation for $85,000 to support its homeownership and community stabilization programming in Charlotte-Mecklenburg County. DreamKey Partners carries out a number of initiatives to connect individuals and families to the resources they need to be successful homeowners, which is essential to the health, advancement and stability of the area.

“We are beyond grateful for Bank of America’s continued financial support for DreamKey Partners,” said Julie Porter, President of DreamKey Partners. “They have always been a strong partner of our organization and one of our biggest supporters. This investment will help grow our programs and further our mission of creating stronger, more viable communities across the county.”

The grant will be used to revitalize and strengthen communities through a number of different programs, including: providing counseling for homeowners on the brink of foreclosure; increasing the number of certified foreclosure and homeownership counselors through training; stabilizing fragile neighborhoods by addressing dilapidated structures and putting vacant properties back into productive use; empowering consumers through financial and homeownership education and counseling; creating homeownership opportunities for low- and moderate-income families; and producing and managing affordable, high-quality rental properties.

“Bank of America is lending, investing and giving in local communities in order to advance local economies and create positive change,” said Charles Bowman, North Carolina and Charlotte market president, Bank of America. “Providing support to organizations like DreamKey Partners, that provide critical services to individuals and families to fully prepare them for homeownership, is essential to improving the quality of life in the communities we serve.”

Since inception, DreamKey Partners has led the revitalization of Charlotte’s inner-city neighborhoods such as Greenville, Genesis Park, Druid Hills, Seversville, Park at Oaklawn (formerly Fairview Homes) and Double Oaks. The organization has provided financial self-sufficiency education for nearly 21,000 families and assisted more than 2,500 individuals in becoming homeowners. More than 2,300 affordable housing units have been financed and developed over the course of the organization’s history.
