Nonprofit Continues to Dramatically Expand Housing Options for Low- and Moderate-Income Families
CHARLOTTE, N.C., October 18, 2019 – Charlotte-Mecklenburg Housing Partnership (DreamKey Partners) is celebrating 30 years of leadership in revitalizing and strengthening Charlotte’s communities. From the late 1980s to today, the organization has created stable and healthy communities in nearly a dozen of Charlotte’s historic neighborhoods including Druid Hills, Seversville, Greenville and the Statesville Avenue Corridor.
To commemorate this milestone, DreamKey Partners is hosting a 30th Anniversary luncheon, presented by Bank of America, at the Westin Charlotte Hotel on Wednesday, October 23, at 11:30 a.m.
The nonprofit was organized in 1988 to expand housing options for low- and moderate-income families in Mecklenburg County and to create partnerships that empower individuals to achieve economic independence. In addition to building affordable housing communities, DreamKey Partners offers down payment assistance, homebuyer education and financial literacy resources for qualified individuals. Since inception, it has addressed the lack of affordable housing by providing more than 3,000 rental homes, creating over 4,100 new homeowners and revitalizing nine neighborhoods across Mecklenburg County.
“As we keep reaching towards our goals, this celebration is an opportunity to reflect on the positive change DreamKey Partners has helped bring about in our region over the past 30 years,” said Julie Porter, president of DreamKey Partners. “This organization has done transformative work, not only in the developments it’s built, but also in the lives of the people and families its touched. We are proud of our accomplishments yet remain steadfast in continuing this important work for our neighbors here in Charlotte.”
The invite-only event includes a special keynote from Marietta Rodriguez, president and CEO of NeighborWorks America and a long-time advocate for affordable housing.
The luncheon will be emceed by WSOC-TV’s Gina Esposito and will also recognize a champion of affordable housing who has been instrumental in helping Charlotte thrive.
